Harry Pouncey 'Norwegian' spinning wheel. Double
drive. Built in skeiner. Signed under the table.
Probably oak, doesn't dismantle, though the skeiner
can be removed. Might have had a lazy kate on the
top of the 'distaff' at some point.
Bobbins: there are 5. One came with the wheel and
has been repaired (part of the whorl end had broken
off and been glued). The second was made for me
by a local wood turner and it's hard to tell it apart
from the original. The other 3 were made from
drawings and measurements I supplied to another
wood turner (at distance) so the shape is not quite
'right' in appearance, but still functional.
Two issues: the flyer has been broken at some point
and glued. I have wired it up, though it might be an
idea to wire it a bit more substantially. The top of
the footman has been mended (vertical break where
it hangs over the axle pin). Neither issue has caused
me problems, but I wish any prosepctive buyer to be
aware.
These wheels rarely come up for sale. I am
reluctantly selling it as I need the space.
